Making Informed Decisions during
Open Enrollment

During Open Enrollment, you can change your Medicare coverage. This includes switching from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan, or vice versa. You also have the option to change your prescription drug coverage.

Here are your options during Medicare Open Enrollment:

Transition between Original Medicare and a Medicare Advantage plan, or vice versa.

  • Sign up for a Medicare Part D plan for prescription drugs.

  • Switch Medicare Part D prescription drug plans

  • Disenroll from a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan

  • Change from a Medicare Advantage plan with prescription coverage to a Medicare Advantage plan without prescription coverage, or vice versa.

To make the most of this period, it’s essential to be organized.

Start by reviewing your current coverage and assessing whether it still meets your healthcare needs. Do you have any gaps in your health care coverage?

Once you know your specific needs, it’s time to explore your options. Research different plans and their benefits, costs and provider networks. Reach out to Medicare insurance expert to get critical information about what options you have in your area.

During this process, be sure to consider any specific enrollment deadlines. The Open Enrollment Period runs from October 15 to December 7 each year. Missing this deadline may mean having to wait until the next Open Enrollment Period to make changes.

Stay aware of the coverage start date for your new plan. Most times, coverage begins on January 1 following the Open Enrollment Period.

Ask for help if needed. Medicare can be complex, and most people are confused about Medicare. The information in written form can be confusing and sometimes misleading.
